Uhm, I was referring to Balthazar Faction. When GW came out, PVPers had to do the PVE Side of the game to unlock the skills for their accounts. Lo and behold, a huge whinefest was the reaction and A-Net implemented Balthazar Faction so that PVP Players could easily gain all their skills by just playing PVP.
But there was still a slight imbalance, Tyria had some items with curious stats that had a very slight advantage over the PVP weapon options, plus they could swap armors and runesetups mid battle (a slightly MORE imbalanced problem).

PVPers started a whinefest, PVPers finally got their PVP Crafter etc and almost every curious PVE Mod was completely removed from the game. I support these changes, they were necessary and for the best of the PVP Environment.

PVP is now completely and succesfully detached from the PVE side. To enjoy highlevel PVP you don't have to do any kind of PVE anymore. This is good and the way it should be. On the other hand though, to enjoy the highlevel PVE Content, you depend upon the success of your territory or need to gain the favor yourself through means of PVPing.

This of course is an imbalance the PVP side doesn't care for as it doesn't affect them. Hence, the trolling posts like "go and get Favor then" or "stop whining".

I've been on the european realm since release, I know full well how limiting the favor system can be. But over the course of the months I have given up as I said.
Factions (now i'm referring to the chapter) allready had another system for it (with it's own flaws of course). And Nightfall finally got the system the way it should allways have been. So this tells me that A-Net is fully aware of the problem but won't change a damn thing about it in the older chapters. Hence why I gave up on this issue.

I do how ever know what you mean when you refere to the favour system.

I cant comment as to whether the favour system is just or not as Ive never contributed to PvP and done my piece for Europe.

But from I do understand I dont think its thats unfair or at fault. I think the system is fine.

I think the fault is due to the lack of Americans playing GWs. Which obviously isnt America's fault personally. More perhaps the lack of adversiting by Anet in the US.

It could also be that Europe has more of a taste for MMOs then America. Hence why its more popular here.

But the game has only been around for about 2 years, and MMOs can take a while to fizzle out and catch on. The problem will eventually sort itself out as more Americans start to play the game and more Americans exist to compete in PvP and to gain favour.

But I also suspect your talking about playing FOW and UW in factions?

Ive never really known it to be too popular in Cantha. Perhaps try moving to Tryia and playing it from the TOA. There is always alot more people there. Perhaps even more American players to join you.

Ofcourse I have nooo idea what im talking about, so please dont assume that I do. That was all from my very limited understanding of the favour system
You don't seem to understand it at all. When a team wins 5 times in a row in the Hall of Heroes, they gain favor for their region. This is evidently based on which region the team leader plays for or the what region the majority of the members in the team play for. Favor grants certain PvE benefits; e.g. active shrines and the ability to adventure in the Fissure of Woe and The Underworld. In Prophecies you enter either of these two areas from the Temple of Ages. In Nightfall you enter from the Chantry of Secrets. I have no idea about Factions as I do not own that chapter of the game. The only way a PvE player can take advantage of these benefits is if the region the play for currently controls the Hall of Heroes, thus retaining favor for their region.

The problem will not eventually sort itself out. It may be that America once again starts keeping favor a majority of the time, or even one of the other regions. That would only shift the problem to a new subset of the available regions, though. That doesn't solve the problem. PvE players will still be beholden to the PvP players in their region, and certain regions will still be without content that the players may want to access.

When I started playing the game in August of 2005 the Balthazar faction was already in place. I assumed you were talking about Factions the campaign because you didn't use the word Balthazar, only "faction" and you capitalized it.

I agree with you that access to the "elite" area in Nightfall is granted properly. You beat the game, you get access. Simple. But, the original problem continues to persist in Nightfall. It is possible, provided your region has faction, to enter FoW or UW from the Chantry of Secrets. So the Nightfall only elite area is fine, but the elite area accessible from every campaign thus far, to the best of my knowledge, is only accessible if you a) happen to have favor at the time you want to go there or b) are able to change your region to the one that currently enjoys favor 95% of the time.

I think we can agree that this hurts every PvE player across the globe no matter what campaign(s) they have. It is an even bigger problem for the eastern countries; it seems they don't have the 'b' option.

Kudos to the OP for his very well thought out discussion on the problems with the favor system.

Thank you JSumners for having the tenacity to carry on this fight.

The current favor "Reward/Punishment" system is broken and I think most people agree on that. Complaining will not get it fixed but constructive solutions might. Below I have outlined a very simple fix that not only rewards those who have favor but gives those that don't have favor what they deserve as well.

The punishment for not having favor is locked content. Most people in some territories (Japan and Taiwan come to mind) will probably NEVER be able to enjoy this content. This is simply not fair to those people who paid for content they can never play or play once in a blue moon at best.

A simple solution would be to change the reward for Favor and not punish those that do not have favor.

The first step is to unlock all the content to remove the punishment.

The second step is to give a proper reward to the territory that does hold Favor.

As a suggestion:

A JUST reward for holding Favor might be an increased rare drops rate in Elite Missions (Or perhaps everywhere) for the territory that has favor. This could replace the double drop weekend events ANET is so fond of now so they can come up with some new weekend events. It still ties the PvP to the PvE in a little way without doing away with Favor all together. It does not ruin the enjoyment of the game for those that do not have favor.

This would solve EVERY complaint raised in this thread about the broken favor system. And it would also eliminate the mass territory migration issues since the major incentive to switch territories has been removed.

At this time I would like to solicit other suggestions for Just Rewards for Favor.

I thought the problem is A-Net actualy count on players dropping the "PVE vs PVP" thing and work together in the name for the simple fact that they are from the same game region??

Welcome Utopia.
Won't happen. Ever. To PVP Players, your regular PVE Player is some kind of null human. Something to hate, something to blame everything on and something to coat in some neo nerd form of racism.

Both sides hate each other (yes, I'm saying hate because that is what it is).
